Based in London, our studio specialises in product, furniture and interior design.
We have the skills to create entire environments, from the interior envelope to custom designed furniture, fixtures and identities, realising a complete vision.
An expert team can be tailored to suit the project requirements with our regular collaborators in architecture, graphic design and web design.
We develop projects, nurturing ideas and concepts from an early stage and ensuring every step of the process will lead to a successful end result. We prefer to adapt our answer to what the project contexts reveal to us, taking into consideration all constraints we find during the design process.
Hugo da Silva studied Industrial Design at IADE in Lisbon, followed by a Product Design post-graduate diploma at the Glasgow School of Art.
After working at Almadesign – Lisbon, in transport, outdoor furniture, exhibition and product design, he moved to Milan to work at Isao Hosoe Design studio focusing on office furniture for Steelcase, France.
On returning to Lisbon he became a consultant for the Portuguese Design Centre on design management, he also tutored young designers during their internships in Portuguese companies. Hugo began a partnership with Isabel Lúcio under the name hi! designteam being commissioned by several clients to develop furniture, product and interior design.
He is currently based in London where he started first as a freelance designer for the studio PearsonLloyd and
then with Michael Sodeau Partnership where he still collaborates regularly. At the same time he set up his own studio to develop interior, furniture and product design commissions as well as taking on project management roles.
While primarily educated in product design, his multi-disciplinary design vision has enabled him to continually engage with other design fields and creatives, challenging and enriching his design path.
Hugo’s work has been exhibited regularly in Portugal and internationally. For each project he develops an approach and line of thought that combines cultural references and collective memories, contemporary and functional needs, designed with evocative significance.
